Netflix boss' unlikely verdict on Meghan and Harry's documentary after heavy criticism

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have seen their new TV deal with Netflix be classed as a “downgrade” – but the streaming giants are keen to praise the couple. Despite their initial deal with the company not being as big of a success as anticipated, the duo have had complimentary backing from Netflix’s chief executive. The big boss has praised Meghan’s ‘remarkable influence’ and called Harry’s documentary ‘successful in every measure’. Meghan’s second series of With Love, Meghan was praised by Ted Sarandos, despite viewers being less than impressed. The eight-part series, which sees the former Suits actress, 44, and special guests chat at her beautiful California estate as she shares cooking, gardening and hosting tips. Despite critics blasting it as “dull” and “staged,” Sarandos admitted he was happy with what had been produced. Speaking on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, he opened up on the decision to give the Sussexes their ‘first-look’ deal with Netflix. Despite the contracted being labelled by some as a “downgrade “on their previous $100million contract, Sarandos praised the pair. He confessed: “One thing we learned early with Meghan… she has remarkable influence -remarkable.” He went on: “And by the way, the documentary itself [the pair’s joint documentary] was also one of the most watched documentaries we’ve ever had. “So it was […] successful in every measure. Now I don’t think that you can have a consumer products business if you don’t have a great entertainment business. So that’s got to come first.” Among the celebrity guests taking part in Meghan’s second series included US model and T V personality Chrissy Teigen and Queer Eye star Tan France . Podcaster Jay Shetty and his cookbook author wife Radhi Devlukia also feature, while chefs joining Meghan include Clare Smyth, who runs Core, a three-Michelin star restaurant in London, and Jose Andres, who set up the World Central Kitchen . Fans watching listened as Meghan admitted in episode three that spending nearly three weeks away from her children left her “not well”. While it wasn’t immediately clear when she was referring to, some believe it to be when the married pair remained in the UK due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. In the episode, Meghan opens up about what she misses most about the UK and confessed she isn’t a fan of baking. She also explains how she produced a “truly terrible” roast chicken on the night Harry asked her to marry him. Like this story?
