Firefighters extinguished a fire at a strip mall in Clemmons Monday morning, saving millions of dollars in property damage, according to a release from the Forsyth County Fire Marshal’s Office.
On Sept. 22 at 9:58 a.m., Forsyth County Emergency 911 received a call reporting a fire at the Deluxe Spa & Nails located at 160 Westwood Village Drive in Clemmons, the release said.
Subsequently the Clemmons, Lewisville, and Forsyth County fire departments were immediately dispatched with the Clemmons Fire Department arriving within minutes to find a working fire in the business which was extending to additional businesses within the strip mall.
According to the release, shortly after arriving at the scene Clemmons Fire Chief Gary Styers assumed command and requested to upgrade the incident response to a second alarm, calling for additional fire departments from surrounding areas to respond to the scene to assist.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene representing at least eight different agencies and the fire was contained and extinguished.
Authorities say one person was injured in the incident with minor burns to the face and hand that they sustained while attempting to extinguish the fire.
The victim was treated on scene and later transported by Forsyth County EMS to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for further treatment, the release said.
After investigating the Forsyth County Fire Marshal determined the fire was caused by a failure of a multi-outlet power strip, which was in operation in a room used by the business for laundry and storage.
The fire affected three businesses within the strip mall.
