Sarina Wiegman, manager of the Lionesses, was awarded the Johan Cruyff trophy for best women’s coach at the Ballon d’Or awards in Paris.
Fabio Capello, the presenter, mispronounced her name as ‘Sabrina Wiegman’ during the ceremony.
Wiegman received the accolade for leading England to their second consecutive Euros title in Switzerland this summer, her third consecutive Euros win as a coach.
In her acceptance speech, Wiegman advocated for football to be an inclusive environment and urged the sport to unite against misogyny and racism.
Despite a plea from Ruud Gullit to return to manage the Dutch team, Wiegman confirmed her intention to remain with the Lionesses until after the 2027 World Cup.
