Several of author Harlan Coben’s books have been turned into highly watched series like Missing and Fool Me Once. This time, for Amazon Prime Video, Coben is writing directly for television. Lazarus, which premieres on October 22, follows Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus, who finds himself seeing ghosts after his father’s (Bill Nighy) suicide. Check out the eerie trailer below. Lazarus trailer featuring Sam Claflin On social media, Amazon Prime Video dropped the new trailer and teased, “The truth will be revealed. Harlan Coben’s new original series, Lazarus, comes October 22.” Besides Claflin and Nighy, the ensemble cast includes Alexandra Roach as Jenna Lazarus, David Fynn as Seth McGovern, Karla Crome as Bella Catton, and Kate Ashfield as Detective Alison Brown. Coben has co-written Lazarus with Danny Brocklehurst, who earlier worked on the author’s series Fool Me Once and Stay Close. The official synopsis reveals that “Joel Lazarus (Sam Claflin) returns home after his father Dr. Jonathan Lazarus (Bill Nighy) dies by suicide and begins to have disturbing experiences that can’t be explained. He quickly becomes entangled in a series of cold-case murders as he grapples with the mystery of his father’s death and his sister’s murder 25 years ago.” ALSO READ: 9 Twisty Harlan Coben OTT Series To Binge Now Sam Claflin on Lazarus series Calling the new Coben series a “really high-octane, twisty thriller,” Claflin revealed what gets his character ticking. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he shared, “There was sort of an unresolved family trauma that he never dealt with, but, you know, decided to run away from his feelings. He sort of lost contact with his friends, his family, and is very sort of focused on his work.” Father and son both share the same profession. The actor added, “There’s a love and respect and, especially for Joel, almost a hero worship of his father, because his father is a psychiatrist. I think Joel really looked up to him and aspired to be him in some capacity.”
