Hosted by Providence District Supervisor Dalia Palchik, the event offered fun activities and entertainment, such as performances by the Vienna Singing Princesses and Drew Blue Shoes the Magician, along with resource tables from Fairfax County government agencies and community groups like the Sierra Club and the Tysons Community Alliance.
“It’s really is about building community,” Palchik told Patch on Saturday. “We have a very large area that we cover in Providence and diverse, extremely diverse here. We try to get as central and geographically as possible here, just south of Tysons, north of Dunn Loring, and not too far from Oakton and Marshall and Fairfax, which are the main areas of the Providence District.”
Providence Day also gave residents an opportunity to meet one-to-one with local officials. Aside from Palchik, Fairfax County Board Chair Jeff McKay (D-At-Large), School Board Member Karl Frische and Del. Marcus Simon (D-Falls Church) were in attendance, as well as Dr. Michelle Reid, superintendent of Fairfax County Public Schools.
“It’s really to make it multigenerational, to bring services, to bring music and entertainment,” Palchik said. “I think we figured out a great model and location and to just keep growing it and letting more of the community know about this free event every year.”
