The wife of the late National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician, Samuel Aboagye, has shared adorable throwback videos of him bonding with his daughter as she celebrates her birthday.

Samuel Aboagye and seven other people, including four other high-ranking government officials, were killed in the August 6, 2025, helicopter crash near Obuasi.

The group was travelling from Accra to Obuasi to attend an anti-illegal mining event when their aircraft crashed into the Sikaman Forest in the Adansi Afuokrom District of the Ashanti Region.

Aboagye, a former NDC parliamentary candidate for the Obuasi East Constituency and a deputy director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), died alongside the Minister of Defence, Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

Other civilian casualties included a Deputy National Security coordinator, Alhaji Linuma Mohammed, and a former Mayor of Kumasi, Samuel Sarpong.

Three members of the Ghana Air Force, who were operating the Z-9 helicopter, were also killed.

Samuel Aboagye was survived by his wife, Abigail Salami, and two daughters.

Six weeks after he died in the helicopter crash, Samuel Aboagye’s youngest daughter turned a year older.

In a video seen by YEN.com.gh on the TikTok page of Samuel Aboagye’s wife, she shared an adorable throwback video showing Aboagye bonding with his daughter to mark her birthday.

In her caption, she noted that while his death was painful, she knew he would be watching his daughter with love and pride.

“Happy birthday, my Queen. This year feels different without Dad here, but I know he is watching over you with so much love and pride. He loved you more than words could ever say,” she said.

Abigail Salami added: “Though my heart aches, I celebrate you with all the love I have, for both of us. You are my joy, my strength, and the reason I keep going. May this year bring you comfort, blessings, and the courage to carry his love with you always.”
