Insider Gives Incorrect 17-0 Record For Eagles QB Jalen Hurts

It’s important to give Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts credit for everything he’s accomplished since the franchise made him a second round pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
It’s important because it could be the first chapter of an NFL career that could one day be a Pro Football Hall of Fame career.
“Jalen Hurts is 17-0 across his last 17 starts,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on “First Take” following a comeback win for the Eagles over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3 to improve to 3-0.
Hurts career, however great as it is and may continue to be, does not 17 wins across his last 17 regular season and postseason starts.
Hurts is actually 17-1 across his last 18 starts, with a 36-33 Week 16 loss to the Washington Commanders in 2024 in which Hurts suffered a concussion and left the game in the first quarter.
Hurts missed the final 2 games of the regular season before returning for 4 playoffs wins, including a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX in which Hurts was named Super Bowl MVP.
The NFL record for most consecutive wins for a quarterback is held by former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who won a combined 21 starts across the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
Mental Gymnastics To Make 17-0 Work
There were some serious mental gymnastics needed to come up with a 17-0 stat for Hurts over his last 17 games, with several outlets adding the tag of “games started and finished” to make that leap. Which isn’t even really a stat, in any universe.
“Jalen Hurts in last 17 games he’s started and finished (incl. playoffs),” NFL on CBS wrote on its official X account. “17-0.”
“Jalen Hurts — past 17 games he’s started and finished — W-L 17-0,” CBS Sports NFL reporter Jeff Kerr wrote on his official X account on September 21.
“17–0 in his last 17 starts,” Eagles Fan Central wrote on its official X account. “Put some respect on the name of the Super Bowl MVP.”
“Jalen Hurts has won 17 straight games,” X user Barry On Here wrote on September 21. “In those 17 games: 43 touchdowns 5 turnovers 1 ring 1 Super Bowl MVP. Any other QB does this they would be talked as a future Hall of Famer, which Hurts is on pace to be btw.”
“With the Eagles win today: Jalen Hurts advanced to 40-10 as a starter,” X user Aidan Doc wrote on September 22. “He has 17 wins in a row. Unreal.”
Unreal is an accurate way to describe it.
Hurts currently has 7 wins in a row as a starter.
Hurts Actually Owns Several NFL Records
Probably the most important reason not to make up stats for Hurts that don’t exist is he already owns several NFL records all on his own.
Hurts currently owns 3 NFL records outright; most rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback (15), most rushing touchdowns in a postseason game by a quarterback (3) and most rushing yards in a Super Bowl by a quarterback (72).
Hurts also became the first quarterback in NFL history with 10-plus rushing touchdowns in 4 different seasons in 2024, breaking a record he held with former NFL MVP Cam Newton.
