In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a shocking family drama ended in an unexpected way. In August, Keshav Kumar, who was already married with children, ran away with his 19-year-old sister-in-law, Kalpana. The very next day, Ravindra, Keshav’s brother-in-law, decided to do the same with Keshav’s 19-year-old sister.
The incidents shocked both families, who filed complaints at the Nawabganj police station. Within a few weeks, the police located both couples and instead of taking the matter to court, the families chose a different approach.
Bareilly Double Elopement Shock Families
As per PTI reports, the family decided to gather with elders from the community to discuss the situation in a peaceful manner. After careful discussion, everyone agreed to let the couples stay together to avoid a long legal battle or further conflict. This rare and mature resolution drew attention for how the families handled such a delicate matter with understanding and cooperation.
As per Nawabganj SHO Arun Kumar Srivastava, “We traced the couples on September 14 and 15.” He explained that the families later came together at the police station to sort out the issue. According to the police, what happened next was unusual as both sides decided to resolve instead of fighting. With community elders present, the families agreed to accept the couples’ choices and chose not to move forward with any legal case.
When Family Demolishes Houses after Elopement Case
In an earlier case, “bulldozer justice” was reported in Gujarat’s Bharuch district. A married woman, from Kareli village in Jambusar taluka, had eloped with a divorced man from the same village, which led to tension between their families. When the man’s relatives failed to bring him in front of the woman’s family, her family members allegedly took matters into their own hands. They used a bulldozer to demolish parts of six houses, including toilet blocks and other structures belonging to him and his relatives. Following the incident, Vedach police took action and arrested six people, including the bulldozer driver.
As per The Times of India, Vedach police inspector BM Chaudhary explained that those involved in the demolition have been charged for “causing damage, causing hurt, unlawful assembly, criminal intimidation and breach of peace under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 324 (5), 189 (2), 191 (2), 190, 115 (1), 352 and 351 (3).” He added that the accused have been taken into custody and the bulldozer used in the act has also been seized by the police.
