Four years have passed since the premiere of Mo Amer‘s second Netflix special, Mohammed in Texas. Now, he’s readying his return with Wild World, an hour-long special that catches up with the stand-up comedian after the long stretch of time.
Streaming Oct. 28, Wild World follows Amer as he “celebrates his Palestinian heritage, relives the birth of his son, takes aim at the TSA,” and more, according to a synopsis of the special. The release comes just a few months after the conclusion of his scripted comedy-drama series Mo, which ran for two seasons on Netflix. Amer created the series with Ramy Youssef and starred in the titular role.
Amer is currently on the road as he continues his El Oso Palestino Tour. “It’s constantly revealing itself, but it’s like stepping out. I don’t need to talk about where I came from by now. It’s more of a traditional stand-up set, diving into some deeper subjects in a very comedic way,” he told The Guardian about his set earlier this year.
Still, his Texas upbringing and Palestinian heritage are crucial to his perspective, which has informed his comedy for more than a decade.

“Mo began its life as a show that tried very hard to prove this point, finding silliness and joy in the lives of characters who have almost exclusively been depicted in American pop culture within the context of pain and suffering. Amer and his collaborators would be well within their rights to want to keep doing that — to offer a brief respite from all the suffering that’s happening right now,” Rolling Stone wrote in a review of the final season of Amer’s semi-autobiographical series.
“And there are moments when Season Two works very well as a straightforward joke-delivery system. Ultimately, though, [Mo’s mother] Yusra can’t look away from her homeland, nor can the series. And the only way to do that is not by alluding to it in the midst of slinging punch lines, but by confronting it directly, with shatteringly understated power.”
