A sign on the doors of a Presque Isle hibachi restaurant noting that the establishment had been closed by the Maine Revenue Services has been removed, and the restaurant opened as usual on Sept. 18.
Shogun Japanese Restaurant, a hibachi steakhouse and sushi bar, has typically closed from Monday through Wednesday in recent months, so the state order early last week did not impact business.
The sign, which was taped to the doors of Shogun, said that “the seller’s registration certificate of this establishment has been revoked” for noncompliance with a state statute that governs the registration of retailers.
It was accompanied by an envelope addressed to Dana Cassidy, the owner of both Shogun and the multipurpose building that it is housed in.
Cassidy, who also owns the Aroostook Centre Mall, said on Sept. 16 that the issue stemmed from the restaurant’s previous owner.
Shogun first opened in January. Cassidy took ownership of the restaurant in the months that followed. It passed health inspections in January and March.
