Texans HC DeMeco Ryans finding no solace in close calls amid 0-3 start

The Houston Texans are 0-3 following a 17-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Texans have had opportunities to win all three of their games, but have lost by a total of 13 points to the Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams.
On Monday, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans was blunt about his team’s showing in the early season, saying he’s not encouraged by how close Houston has come to winning a game.
‘We’ve got to find a way to win the game,” Ryans told the media via Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. “The games have been close. We’ve been right there. We have to find a way to get it done. No, it’s not encouraging. It’s not about being close. We’re not here just to be close. We’re here to win football games.”
Ryans’ defense hasn’t been the issue with the winless start for Houston. The Texans are holding opponents to 17 points per game, tied for the fifth-best mark in the NFL.
Houston should be able to find a way to win with the defense playing that well. However, third-year quarterback CJ Stroud and the offense haven’t done their part in recent weeks.
Stroud threw for 204 yards and one touchdown but had two costly interceptions against the Jaguars. The Texans only rushed for 87 yards.
Houston has a big week coming up. The Texans need to get their first win of the season in Week 4 when they host the 0-3 Tennessee Titans. They then travel to play the Baltimore Ravens in Week 5.
Houston has little margin for error the rest of the season if it wants to make the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
