'Concerned' MP demands 'full explanation' after Birmingham headteacher suddenly left school

A City MP is demanding answers from a school after an ‘outstanding’ headteacher suddenly left his post. Preet Gill has waded into the furore which erupted after a letter was sent out by Woodhouse Primary Academy, in Quinton, on September 2 saying Oliver Wilson had decided to leave with immediate effect. Parents were furious that the much-liked head – who is credited with substantially improving the school in recent years as noted in an Ofsted inspection carried out in March – had gone. Mrs Gill said: “The information available suggests to me that this was not the normal process of making “the decision to leave.” She went on: “I am concerned, however, that the explanation and assurances that have been provided to parents are inadequate to satisfy peoples’ concerns. “The petitioners specifically raise a “duty to ensure high-quality education for our children” and “demand Greenheart Learning Partnership make themselves fully accountable to the school community.” “Parents are clearly concerned about the impact of this situation on their children. “It is clear to me that far more needs to be done to explain why this situation has arisen and what actions are being and will be taken to address the concerns raised. “Without this, I fear that speculation and ill-feeling will be perpetuated impacting on the well-being of the children and reputation of the school. “I ask that you provide a full explanation to parents, the wider community and myself, giving assurance about the future leadership and direction of the school.” The Trust has been contacted for comment.
