Tom Homan firmly responds after being accused of accepting $50,000 under bribery sting

Tom Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar, is firing back after a new report revealed that he was under investigation for accepting $50,000 from undercover FBI agents.
MSNBC first reported Saturday, citing internal documents and multiple people involved, that a bribery probe into Homan has been shut down by Trump’s Justice Department. Homan had indicated that he could help the agents, who were disguised as business executives, to receive government contracts under a second Trump presidency. Several outlets have since confirmed the reporting.
After FBI Director Kash Patel requested an update on the case, Trump appointees had shuttered the investigation, according to MSNBC. The outlet also revealed that the FBI and Justice Department were waiting to see whether Homan would carry out his agreement if chosen as the country’s top immigration official — but the case stalled once the president started his second term in January.
While speaking to NewsNation after the report’s release, Homan denied the allegations.
“Bulls—,” Homan, who has been largely involved in the president’s deportation efforts,
told White House Correspondent Libbey Dean.
In a statement to multiple outlets, Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said: “This matter originated under the previous administration and was subjected to a full review by FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors. They found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing.”
Other officials in the administration have framed the investigation as being politically motivated.
“Tom Homan has not been involved with any contract award decisions. He is a career law enforcement officer and lifelong public servant who is doing a phenomenal job on behalf of President Trump and the country,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said.
According to Reuters, Homan was secretly recorded taking $50,000 in a bag in Cava, a restaurant chain, as part of a sting operation.
The exchange took place on Sept. 20, 2024, in Texas, MSNBC reported. A grand jury probe was underway in the Western District of Texas.
Homan previously served as the president and owner of a private consulting business to help companies in the border security industry obtain government contracts, according to MSNBC. He accompanied the president on the campaign trail, months before he was touted as overseeing the implementation of Trump’s immigration crackdown.
