Priyanka reviews progress of projects in Malappuram

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, MP of Wayanad, here on Monday (September 22) reviewed the projects being undertaken in the constituency spread across Wayanad, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts.

She reviewed various projects under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS), National Health Mission (NHM), and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

As many as 45 of the 53 projects sanctioned during Rahul Gandhi’s term as MP of Wayanad were completed in the Assembly segments of Wandoor, Nilambur and Eranad. Seven of the 27 projects Ms. Vadra recommended were being implemented.

The construction of a railway platform at Thuvvur Railway Station is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Ms. Vadra said that the demand for a blood transportation van to collect blood from various areas in the Nilambur region and deliver it to the Nilambur blood bank with precise temperature control would be considered.

She suggested that communication with the tribal community, particularly the primitive Cholanaikar tribe living deep inside the Nilambur forest, should be strengthened.

She said that food grains and other essentials were often distributed without considering the actual needs of the tribal community, and houses were provided without assessing their requirements. “Effective support can only be delivered by understanding their needs,” she said.

District Collector V.R. Vinod presided over the function. MLAs Aryadan Shoukath, A.P. Anil Kumar and P.K. Basheer, District Panchayat president M.K. Rafeekha, vice president Ismail Moothedam, and Additional District Magistrate N.M. Meharali, and District Planning Officer A.D. Joseph took part in the meeting.
