What we learned from Week 4 of the Central Virginia high school football season

Central Virginia high school football teams are preparing for their respective district and league schedules, with some of them going into them with momentum after strong starts to the year.
Here is what we learned from Week 4 of the high school football season.
STAB, Louisa, Nelson stay undefeated
St. Anne’s-Belfield improved their record to 4-0 with a 33-14 victory over Virginia Episcopal on Friday. Jonah Brent found the end zone twice before halftime. The Saints have already matched their 2024 win total, and will next play Roanoke Catholic on Sept. 26.
Coming off of a bye week, Louisa County earned their third victory with a 34-13 win against Matoaca on Friday. The Lions dominated on the ground, with Savion Hiter running for 261 yards and four touchdowns. Three of his scores went for more than 40 yards.
Louisa County will next face Fluvanna County on Sept. 26.
Nelson County improved their record to 3-0 with a 50-22 victory over Cumberland on Friday. The Governors outscored the Dukes, 22-7, in the second half. Nelson County’s next game will be against Altavista on Sept. 26.
Blue Ridge, Woodberry, Fork Union bounce back
The Barons defeated Hargrave Military Academy, 37-27, on Friday.
Blue Ridge got out to a 16-0 lead, but the Tigers eventually came back to take a 27-24 lead. However, late in the third quarter, Obryan Bouchard connected with Ty Collins for a touchdown, which put Blue Ridge ahead for good.
The Barons will next play North Cross on Sept. 26 for a rematch of the last two VISAA Division II state title games.
Woodberry Forest earned a 40-0 win over Collegiate on Saturday. The victory featured three Keondre Hudgens touchdowns, a 95-yard score by Jaheem Draughn and a safety on a Shorty Strother forced fumble.
The Tigers will next play Georgetown Prep on Sept. 26.
Fork Union defeated Prince Edward County, 42-6, on Friday. The Blue Devils improved their record to 2-2 to surpass their 2024 win total.
Fork Union will next face Norfolk Academy on Sept. 26.
Western picks up dominant district win
The Warriors defeated Monticello, 40-3, on Friday. The victory comes only a year after the Mustangs earned a 40-point victory over Western Albemarle.
The Warriors continued their efficient aerial attack, with quarterback Gray Heilman going 13-for-15 for 139 yards and two touchdowns. Heilman also led the team in rushing, running for 54 yards and a score.
RJ Corbey hauled in six receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw a 65-yard score to Philip Venton. Andrew Azzato additionally tallied five receptions for 56 yards.
Western Albemarle (3-1) has matched its 2024 win total, and has outscored its last three opponents, 125-3.
Madison County gets in win column
The Mountaineers defeated rival William Monroe, 14-13, on Friday.
Madison County had a smooth first offensive drive, needing only six plays to travel 67 yards and finish with a Kayden Cotton touchdown.
After an exchange of defensive stops, William Monroe’s Rashad Brock ran for a 28-yard rushing score to tie the game at 7-7.
In the Dragons’ first drive out of halftime, they went eight plays and 48 yards, with the final snap being a Cale Hamblin quarterback sneak into the end zone.
Trailing 13-7, Madison County faced a second-and-17 situation at William Monroe’s 40 yard-line late in the third quarter.
Quarterback Aaron Fincham dropped back and quickly found Stephan Turner, who ran across the field past the Dragons’ defense for a touchdown.
Tylee Coates then made the extra point to give Madison County the 14-13 lead.
When the ball returned to William Monroe, its offense went on a persistent drive with multiple fourth down conversions. The Dragons reached a goal-to-go situation, but the Mountaineers ultimately prevented them from scoring after 18 plays and over nine minutes of possession.
Madison County took the ball back with 4:06 left in the fourth quarter and did not let it go. Fincham ran for 29 yards on five rushes and completed a five-yard pass on the final drive before kneeling to secure the Mountaineers’ first victory of the year.
Madison County will next play Harrisonburg on Oct. 3, while the Dragons will face Spotswood on Sept. 26.
