Donald Trump was the guest of honor at Charlie Kirk’s memorial on Sunday.
Just before he spoke, Charlie’s wife Erika took the stage and said she forgives the shooter.
“I forgive him because it is what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do,” she said. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the Gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”
Then Trump came on and did his thing.

This particular part in his 42-minute speech is probably the most viral of the night:

Trump said, “In a private moment on his dying day, we find everything we need to know about who Charlie Kirk truly was. He was a missionary with a noble spirit and a great, great purpose.”
“He did not hate his opponents. He wanted the best for them. That’s where I disagree with Charlie. I hate my opponent, and I don’t want the best for them. I’m sorry. I am sorry, Erika. But now Erika can talk to me and the whole group, and maybe they can convince me that’s not right, but I can’t stand my opponent.”
Then the audience laughed.
It comes with absolutely no surprise that people are divided over this.
Some people found it very funny.
“This is why I love this man.”
Other people found it kind of weird.
“Every time he speaks we get a quote that shouldn’t come from someone with political power.”
