James Arthur Vineyards — Nebraska’s oldest operating winery — won awards for three wines at the 2025 International Eastern Wine Competition in Windsor, California in early September.
The Raymond winery’s semi-sweet red wine, Sweet Charlotte, won Double Gold and Best of Class, receiving a 96 out of 100 from judges.
James Arthur Vineyards’ Bourbon Barrel-Aged Frontenac — a dry red wine — won silver, and its 2023 Edelweiss — a semi-sweet white wine — won gold.
Jim Ballard, co-owner of James Arthur Vineyards, said he is honored to add the three wines to a list of awards his winery has collected over 28 years.
“The International Wine Competition is one of the country’s most prestigious awards competitions,” Ballard said in a news release. “To win not only a Double Gold, but also a Best of Class for our Sweet Charlotte, shows that we continue to make high quality wines here at James Arthur Vineyards.”
Sweet Charlotte was named in honor of Ballard’s mother and is made of Frontenac grapes.
James Arthur Vineyards is located at 2001 W. Raymond Road. The vineyard’s wines are also available at a tasting room inside the From Nebraska Gift Shop in downtown Lincoln, also owned by Ballard and his wife.
