Reliance Consumer Products to invest Rs 768 crore in first food park in Andhra Pradesh

Reliance Consumer Products (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods arm of Reliance Industries (RIL), is set to open its first food park in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh at an investment of Rs 768 crore. The food park will be set up in the Orvakal area’s Brahmanapalli village as part of the company’s broader strategy to invest Rs 40,000 crore over the next three years to build integrated food parks across India. The Kurnool park will be strategically located about three hours from Hyderabad and five from Bengaluru airport by road. The site will have manufacturing facility for chocolates and other confectionery, snacks, noodles, atta, rice and spices. The Andhra Pradesh State Investment Promotion Committee (SIPC) has approved the allotment of 120 acres to RCPL for the food park, said multiple highly placed people in the know. The parcel has been allotted close to a planned RCPL beverages manufacturing facility. The company has been allotted 80 acres for the beverages facility. The project is slated for state cabinet approval within two weeks. Though RCPL signed an MoU with Maharashtra government last week to set up an integrated facility for food products and beverages in Nagpur, Andhra Pradesh has moved ahead with approvals and land allotment, positioning it as the first RCPL food park. The project is planned in two phases and likely to generate employment for 500 persons, as per the people cited. It will have a combined manufacturing capacity of around 23,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of spices, 3,800 TPA of snacks, 14,400 TPA of noodles and pasta in the first phase. The second phase will comprise 32,900 TPA of confectionary and chocolates, 36,500 TPA of rice and 120,000 lakh TPA of atta. The investment in food parks will help RCPL become India’s largest consumer goods firm and reach `1 lakh crore in annual revenue in five years, Reliance Retail Ventures executive director Isha Ambani said at RIL’s annual general meeting last month.(You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel)
