Political analyst Emmanuel Alex Nti has stated that the decision by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to establish a committee to monitor its five aspiring presidential candidates is too late.
He explained that the aspirants have already “aired their dirty laundry” in public, making the committee’s formation untimely.
Mr. Nti was commenting on the National Council of Elders of the NPP’s decision to establish an ad-hoc Committee to oversee the conduct of aspiring presidential candidates, their campaign teams, and followers ahead of the party’s primaries.
The party made the decision following a meeting with the aspirants on Thursday, September 11, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, on Monday, September 15, 2025, the committee has been tasked with monitoring campaign activities to safeguard the integrity of the process.
However, Mr. Nti reiterated that the candidates have already exposed themselves ahead of the primaries.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, he said the allegations, counter-allegations, and attacks by the candidates occurred before the 2024 general elections, and the party should have learned from that experience.
He claimed there are currently “36 sins of the NPP” following the revelations made by the aspiring candidates.
“The party should have taken this decision before opening nominations for the presidential primary because it was obvious that what happened during their presidential primary before the 2024 general elections would repeat itself. I believe the timing is too late, but it is also good to have it. Currently, we have 36 sins of the NPP following the revelations by the aspiring candidates against each other. The NPP has already finished airing their dirty laundry in public. So I don’t think the committee has anything to protect anymore.
The issues surrounding the candidates are already out. Nonetheless, maybe there might be one or two issues that may be raised again, and so establishing the committee will help them address any other challenges,” he stated.
According to him, the committee would be a “toothless bulldog” because it may not be able to suspend or disqualify any of the candidates.
He stated that the candidates must be measured in their commentaries and maintain disciplined and healthy campaigns.
“Will the committee be able to disqualify Kennedy Agyapong should he make remarks about Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia? It would be difficult for them to do that. The committee would be a toothless bulldog. They can’t bite; they can’t do anything. If the candidates want to maintain decorum and discipline, they must run decent campaigns and avoid the vilifications. The timing is wrong, and I don’t think the committee will yield any impact.”
