BBC Strictly Come Dancing bosses have 'back-up plan' if Dianne Buswell forced to quit

Strictly Come Dancing producers reportedly have a plan ready in case Dianne Buswell has to step aside amid her pregnancy. The dancer —who is paired with Stefan Dennis on the BBC show— is expecting her first child with Joe Sugg . They announced their pregnancy news via Instagram last week, also disclosing the baby’s gender, declaring : “Our little baby boy, we cannot wait to meet you.” Viewers were left wondering how Strictly would accommodate Dianne’s pregnancy, though an insider has now shared that “producers have a plan in place”, reports the Mirror . A source has told The Sun: “Everyone at Strictly is absolutely thrilled by Dianne and Joe’s news, particularly as they met and were seen falling in love during the course of the show in 2018. “This is being thought of as the first Strictly baby because never before has a professional knowingly been pregnant while dancing on the contest. Producers have plans in place, and there are several pros who could easily step in and take over at a moment’s notice, because the show must go on.” They went on: “The BBC’s primary concern is the health and wellbeing of Dianne and they fully intend to support her through the process with regular check-ins from the welfare team.” Prior to the new series, Dianne – who won the BBC show last year with Chris McCausland – gave a touching tribute to her baby boy in a promotional photograph. It showed her with her back turned to the camera in a dazzling silver dress adorned with blue tassels. The dancer completed the ensemble with a silver choker, blue and silver drop earrings, and blue eyeliner, which some supporters have interpreted as a heartfelt reference to her expected baby boy. She shared the image on Instagram and wrote, “There she goes again, officially about to kick off my 9th season.” Fellow Strictly professionals and admirers were swift to comment, with fellow pro Amy Dowden calling it “a very special pic”. Another fan remarked, “The blue confetti, outfit, and eyeliner are so gorg!!” A third enthused, “Another year of support for the BEST person, and now her little boy can’t wait to see all the dances and magic you create as always.” Wales Online has reached out to the BBC for comment. Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC One at 6.55pm on Saturday September 27.
