SHPHA has delivered new maternity wing for Erave Sub Health Center

Mothers from the remote Erave in the Southern Highlands Province will enjoy a decent maternity wing at the Erave Sub Health Center to deliver safely, courtesy of the Southern Highlands Provincial Health Authority and the Mineral Resource Development Company (MRDC).

The new facility was officially commissioned and opened for use by the Chief Executive Officer for SHPHA Dr Joseph Birisi at Erave station last Friday.

Dr Birisi thanked MRDC managing Director Augustine Mano for partnering with SHPHA to deliver this much needed facility to enhance family- centred space for antenatal labour and postnatal care for mothers and babies.

Dr Birisi said partnership is the way forward to deliver health service for the people in the province.

The CEO said the SHPHA has already partnered with WHO (World Health Organisation), SANTOS foundation and other partners to drive health service in the province.

Dr Birisi highlighted that this facility will help mothers greatly during birth as birthing is risky and mothers face problems with the absence of a facility that is equipped to provide much needed hygiene and maternal care.

The new facility will be staffed with train midwives to serve the mothers in Erave.

Apart from this birthing facility, a resting house will be erected to provide shelter for pregnant mothers before delivery.
