Schools will be closed in several states across the country due to varied reasons. While some states have announced a holiday for schools to celebrate a festival, others may have done so for security of children. Here’s the state-wise school holiday update for September 22, 2025: Andhra Pradesh All the government as well as private schools across the state will remain closed for 11 days, starting from today, i.e. September 22. Andhra Pradesh schools are observing this 11 days long holiday to celebrate the Dussehra festival. The Dussehra holidays were first planned from September 24 to October 2, giving students a nine days long break. However, several teachers reached out to the state government to prepone the holidays. They said they needed more time to prepare for the festival. The government agreed and added three extra days, and now, the holidays will last for a total of twelve days. “TDP Graduate MLCs have brought to my attention that teachers are requesting Dussehra holidays for schools starting from the 22nd of this month. Following their request, we have discussed with the education department officials and made a decision. It has been decided to grant Dussehra festival holidays from the 22nd of this month until October 2,” Nara Lokesh, Minister for Human Resources Development of Andhra Pradesh, posted on ‘X’ (earlier known as Twitter). Punjab The Punjab government has announced a public holiday today (September 22) to mark Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti. As per the official annual calendar released by the Punjab government earlier, all government offices, as well as government and private schools and colleges will remain closed on September 22. Punjab will also observe three more government holidays in October: Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra together on October 2, Valmiki Jayanti on October 7, and Diwali on October 20. Telangana The Telangana government has announced holidays for Dussehra for schools and junior colleges. The schools will have 13 days of holidays, and junior colleges will get 8 days of holidays. Haryana On the occasion of Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti, the Haryana government has announced a school holiday in Haryana for today, i.e. September 22 (Monday). This holiday was announced in the official annual calendar released by the Haryana government earlier. Schools will also remain closed on September 23 (Tuesday) to observe Shaheedi Divas (Martyrdom Day) in the state.
