Cowboys' DaRon Bland Hit With Another Concerning Injury

Things keep growing worse for the Dallas Cowboys.Roughly two weeks ago, they traded young superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers after they couldn’t come to terms with him on a contract extension. The trade shocked many people, but the organization tried to spin it as a positive after receiving two future first-round draft picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark in return. There was a bit of reason for hope when the Cowboys lost to the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles 24-20 in Week 1 but played the Eagles tough throughout the game. However, more bad news came on Wednesday.Cornerback DaRon Bland, one of Dallas’ true standout players, reportedly sustained a foot injury during practice and could miss multiple weeks as a result, per Ari Meirov.Read more: Packers’ Christian Watson Move Proves He Will Return in 2025Bland, a fifth-round draft pick in 2022 out of Fresno State University, blossomed in a big way during his second season after Trevon Diggs tore his ACL in September of that year. He started in 15 of his 17 games and finished with 15 passes defended, nine interceptions and five pick-sixes. Those five interceptions for a touchdown return set a new single-season NFL record.Last year, Bland was forced to sit until Week 12 due to a stress fracture. He ended up recording five passes defended in seven games.Everyone on defense will need to step up in order to help make up for Parsons’ departure, and there is plenty of pressure on Dallas’ secondary to lock down opposing receivers. Diggs remains a viable threat in its defensive backfield, but the team will likely lack defensive pressure off the edges with Parsons now in Wisconsin. In addition to Parsons, the Cowboys also lost defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who signed as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks during the offseason. To add insult to injury, Lawrence said afterward that he knew he wouldn’t have won a Super Bowl championship had he remained with the Cowboys.Read more: Jaguars’ Travis Hunter Speaks Out After Quiet NFL DebutDallas will host the New York Giants this Sunday before visiting the Chicago Bears in Week 3 and facing Parsons and the Packers in Week 4.For more on the Cowboys and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
