A pair of downtown assaults sends two men to the hospital as residents' concerns rise

A brutal assault at the intersection of Pratt and Howard Streets in downtown Baltimore on Saturday night left a man with head injuries, sending him to Shock Trauma.
The suspects, described as two males in dark clothing, remain at large.

The incident is part of a troubling trend of assaults in the downtown area.
Last Thursday, police responded to another assault near Light and Lombard streets involving an elderly male. This victim was also hospitalized, and the attackers are still on the loose.

Residents and business owners are increasingly concerned about the frequency of these attacks.
“Assaulting people, spitting on the people, it happens here pretty much four or five days a week,” one business owner said.
According to data from the , assaults in the downtown area are on the rise.
In the past seven days, there have been 11 common assaults and four aggravated assaults, the latter involving a weapon. Over a 28-day period, these numbers increase to 45 common assaults and 20 aggravated assaults. For the year, police have responded to 338 common assaults and 146 aggravated assaults downtown, averaging one assault per day.
“When somebody gets attacked that is a personable live that was just about their daily business,” a resident said, frustrated with the situation. “If you can’t in this city go about your daily business without being attacked, hurt, it is wrong. Something really needs to be done.”
As the Baltimore Ravens prepare to host the Detroit Lions for Monday Night Football, thousands of people will be moving through downtown, while police continue their search for the latest assailants.
