The New York Giants are coming off one of their best offensive performances in years in the 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Russell Wilson threw for 450 yards the loss, while Malik Nabers had nine catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns. That performance alone should have the team confident heading into the Sunday Night Football game against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the team got more good news as star left tackle Andrew Thomas is active and will make his season-debut.Thomas has been battling a foot injury, and it has forced him to miss the first two games. Injuries have been an issue in his career, as he has been able to play only 16 games in the last two seasons. He has been looked at as a cornerstone for the Giants since they selected him with the No. 4 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Georgia.Having him back on Sunday night will be huge in a game against the Chiefs that is a must-win as both teams enter this game 0-2.While the offense was able to throw the ball against the Cowboys, one issue where Thomas should help the team is when it comes to running the ball. The Giants are currently being led by Wilson in rushing, as he has carried the ball 11 times for 67 yards. The top two running backs on the team, Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr. have really struggled to run the ball. Skattebo has carried the ball 13 times for 42 yards, while Tracy has ran the ball 15 times for 39 yards. The ground game could be very important in this game, as the Chiefs have allowed only 199 yards per game through the air to start the season. Being able to establish the run early in this game could help open things up for Wilson. Both of these teams have to win this game if they are going to have a chance to make the playoffs. While the Giants being 0-2 isn’t a huge shock to NFL fans, the fact the Chiefs are off to a 0-2 start is definitely a shock. Facing a team like the Chiefs that is as desperate as they have ever been with Patrick Mahomes at quarterback is a big challenge. Having a guy like Thomas back is huge for the Giants, and could be a huge boost if he is fully healthy.Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET, and the game will be on NBC.For more on the New York Giants and the NFL, visit Newsweek Sports.
