Poetry Corner with Kwesi BISSUE: When Autumn Leaves Turn Brown and Fall

Green leaves fade away

Green leaves turn yellow or orange

And pale away

Slowly they dry

Slowly they die

Autumn leaves tend to turn brown

And fall to the ground

When autumn leaves turn brown

And fall down

It is when autumn leaves my brown eyes blue

To see the blues in your eyes

When you hide all the tears you cannot cry

Now far and near

On field and on hill

As early autumn rushes in

Leaves change colour

Trees lose cover

Roots thirst for rain

And my hands grope in vain

Even for a twig

Even for a hug

Autumn’s green leaves keep changing

Keeps me hoping and praying

Autumn’s green leaves keep fading

Leaves me crying and dying

When trees lose their leaves

When water can no longer reach the leaves

When trees live close to winter’s freezing cold

When wind tears dead leaves from the fold

It is when tears drop at a beck and call

When trees lose their leaves

Leaves dry up and die

In the Fall

When trees lose their leaves

It is when autumn lures my arms to leave their hold

From a caressing hold

When autumn leaves fall

They are swept out of sight

They dry up and die

When autumn leaves fall

The trees stand bare

And when my eyes see the leaves fall

In the Fall

They let falling heartbeats tell it all

When autumn leaves fall

They are swept out of sight

They dry up and they die

When autumn leaves fall to the ground

They are swept off the ground

Out of the way

Somewhere…in the Fall

Surely something is wrong

Can someone help to patch us up?

But memories of lips I used to kiss

Memories of the part of me in you

Picked me off the ground kissing

For I was born to kiss your virgin lips

In the middle of autumn

And in the middle of this

I miss your first kiss

I miss the kisses in the Fall

In Autumn’s changing phases

Can something help to patch it up?

When autumn leaves start to fall

I start to miss your last kiss

And in the midst of this

In the middle of autumn

I save the best from my lips for you
