The Philadelphia Eagles were in major trouble against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, as they were trailing 26-7 early in the third quarter.
The offense was struggling mightily, and the Rams were moving the ball very well against the defense. However, Jalen Hurts and the offense got things rolling, and then the defense stepped up and blocked not one, but two field goals to complete the stunning come from behind victory.
The second blocked kick was on a potential game-winning kick for the Rams, but Jordan Davis blocked it, and returned it for a touchdown to give the Eagles the win by a score off 33-26. It was the first time that the Eagles have blocked two kicks in the same game in 17 years.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has built the team on the line of scrimmage over the past few seasons, especially on the defensive line. Jalen Carter gets much of the talk for being one of the best young defensive players in the league, but Davis is also an emerging star in his own right.
He spent the off-season really focusing on getting in better shape, and it showed on the final play. Not only did he make the incredible play on the block, but he also showcased some elite athleticism by scoring a touchdown off it.
This was one of the wildest wins that they have had under coach Nick Sirianni. The team went to the half hearing some boos from their own fans, as Hurts had only 17 yards of passing in the first half.
However, Hurts sparked the second half comeback by throwing three touchdowns in the second half. Those were also his first three touchdowns of the year for Hurts. Wide receiver A.J. Brown has also been struggling to start the year, but he was terrific in the second half, helping the team get back in the game.
Things have not been easy for the Eagles this year, as all three of their wins are by less than a touchdown. They had been hearing from the media about how they weren’t playing great football and all of those things. However, this is one of those games that teams look back on that jumpstarts a season.
The Eagles move to 3-0 on the season, and they will be on the road against another undefeated team in Week 4 when they travel to Tampa Bay to take on Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers.
