Bisons fall short in finale against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre

The Buffalo Bisons went 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position Sunday and that was the key statistic as they closed a disappointing season with a 2-1 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRaiders before a crowd of 5,643 in Sahlen Field.
The Bisons finished with an overall record of 61-85, their most losses since 2009, and were 31-42 in the second half of the International League schedule. They have missed the playoffs in all 12 years of their affiliation with the Toronto Blue Jays, and have not made the postseason since 2005.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the New York Yankees affiliate, finished its season 87-60/49-26. The RailRiders clinched the IL’s second-half title with their 10-2 win here Friday night and play in the best-of-three IL championship series at Jacksonville starting on Tuesday night.
Scranton. which was 14-4 against the Bisons this season, got a run in the fourth on a groundout and took a 2-0 lead in the fifth on Jorbit Vivas’ RBI single. Buffalo got its run in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk to Josh Kasevich but failed on multiple opportunities to score, a common theme in a season when it finished 19th in the 20-team league in batting average and runs.
The Herd opened the third with back-to-back singles but didn’t score, and loaded the bases in the sixth with no outs but only managed one run. Buffalo had four hits in the game and drew six walks but left nine runners on base.
The Bisons and RailRiders closed this season and will begin the next one with the 2026 opener in Buffalo on Friday, March 27.
