An opportunity has come up for a couple to relocate to a small Scottish island for work . Accommodation will be provided with the roles. At the moment, an estate on the privately owned island of Eilean Shona in the Inner Hebrides is looking for two people to join its team. The estate includes eight self-catering cottages, as well as a nine-bedroom main house. According to the job listing on Rural Recruits , among the key responsibilities of the roles will be weekly changeovers for the self-catering cottages, hospitality and meal service during house parties, and general gardening. Other tasks will include path and track maintenance and assisting with the care and maintenance of buildings, boats, and equipment. The successful applicants also will be tasked with supporting conservation projects across Eilean Shona. Additionally, they will be responsible for firewood processing and kindling, carrying out repairs in the holiday cottages and main residence, and the safe operation of boats, quads, and chainsaws. While experience is not required, a history working in hospitality or cleaning would be an advantage. Meanwhile, all applicants must have a car and have the right to work in the UK. Additionally, those applying for the roles should possess boat-handling skills or have a willingness to learn, as well as be confident in water. According to the job listing, they should also be physically fit and happy to work outdoors in all weathers . Other desirable attributes including being practical, adaptable, and willing to take on a variety of tasks. Applicants should also possess a strong initiative and be a positive team player. The job listing states: “We are looking for a practical, energetic couple with a taste for adventure, a can-do attitude and strong team spirit. This is a live-in, seasonal role running from March to October, with the possibility of extension to a permanent position. “The work is varied, covering both hospitality and estate tasks, and no two days are the same. Candidates with previous experience in holiday lets or guest-facing lodge work will be at an advantage. “Boating, gardening, and practical maintenance skills (chainsaw, strimmer, etc.) are also desirable, though not essential for quick learners.” It adds: “This is a rare opportunity to live and work in a beautiful, secluded environment, supporting the smooth running of a unique island estate through the busy rental season.” Eilean Shona is located at the entrance of Loch Moidart, and can be accessed via a short crossing from the mainland. It measures around two miles long and 1.5 miles wide, and is around 525 hectares in area. The island is renowned for its natural beauty, with visitors taking part in activities such as wild swimming, hiking, and kayaking. It has previously welcomed celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Richard Branson, and Jack Whitehall. According to the job listing, Eilean Shona’s owners are “committed to running the island as sustainably as possible”. The island is also described as “a unique place to live and work”.
