Mourners including US President Donald Trump are preparing to honor the life of prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk at a memorial service and funeral in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday.
The public memorial service for the conservative activist is expected to draw a crowd of 73,000 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with 19,000 in overflow.
Turning Point USA, which advocates for conservative politics on high school and college campuses, invited attendees to don their “Sunday Best,” specifically red, white or blue, for the service.
Mr Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in the neck on September 10 while speaking at a Utah university as part of his popular public debate series.
Mr Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will deliver tributes at the event.
Also speaking will be Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., conservative commentator Tucker Carlson and other prominent Trump administration officials.
Mr Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who is taking over the reins of Turning Point USA, will also address the audience.
The Department of Homeland Security has designated the service a SEAR Level 1 event — a status reserved for gatherings of the highest national significance. This designation allows federal law enforcement and security resources to support local authorities.
Suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt for Mr Kirk’s killer, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty in the case.
