The latest Star Wars TV show, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy: Pieces of the Past, has brought back The Mandalorian’s hero with a twist – and has corrected a major mistake in the process. While The Mandalorian is largely regarded as one of the best things to come out of Disney’s Star Wars, it has still had some stumbles.
Many of these stumbles took place in The Book of Boba Fett, the spin-off TV show of The Mandalorian that was meant to focus on Boba Fett. Din Djarin, however, was given a large spotlight, as the series ended up bridging The Mandalorian seasons 2 and 3 together. This is where one of its biggest mistakes began.
Rebuild The Galaxy Gives The Darksaber Back To Mando
The Darksaber has been a key part of Mandalorian lore ever since its introduction in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, as its importance to Mandalorian culture has only grown in the years following its debut. Din Djarin famously won the Darksaber in combat from Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian season 2 finale.
Din, however, constantly struggled to wield the Darksaber and never mastered it before it switched hands, having returned it to Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian season 3. Despite happening well over two years ago now, this is still a large point of contention, one that Rebuild the Galaxy has decided to change.
With Rebuild the Galaxy acting like a “what if?” series for Star Wars, it’s Lando Calrissian as Mando who wields the Darksaber again, but that alone is significant – as Din Djarin hasn’t had the Darksaber for quite some time. Star Wars, however, has clearly recognized that Mando’s imagery ought to be associated with the famed weapon.
Din Djarin Deserved To Master The Darksaber
There’s no denying that the Darksaber arc in The Mandalorian struggled. New lore was being built around the weapon as the series developed, which meant that the rules surrounding the weapon and the way it was meant to be both wielded and passed off weren’t always clear.
What’s evident now, though, in the wake of The Mandalorian season 3, is that Din Djarin deserved to master the Darksaber in some capacity before handing it off to Bo-Katan. There isn’t a single opportunity for Din to prove any type of mastery over the blade when he has it, and it has made the wrong kind of impression.
Din Djarin is a very capable fighter, which makes his inability to wield the Darksaber a strange character weakness. The weapon is also strongly associated with him, as it appeared with him throughout marketing for The Mandalorian season 3, which is more than likely the reason why Rebuild the Galaxy opted to let the Landolorian wield it, too.
