The Foreign Office is warning people to pack 2 crucial documents with them when they’re going on holiday. As well as your passport – which of course must be valid for the place you are travelling to – it asks you to bring more ways to validate who you are. A part of their Foreign travel checklist , they urge people to “take an extra form of photo ID with you, other than your passport.” As well as additional ID, they suggest that holidaymakers or people on business have a “backup plan”. This is for when you need to access “key information such as your accommodation details, flight details, passport details, contact numbers and insurance policy”. This could be, for example, in case you lose your phone. It asks people to share it with friends or family or store online using a secure data storage platform. The Foreign Office’s advice does not end there as they state you should take with you a few other documents and complete a few tasks before you fly. You should: Recently, the HM Passport Office sent an urgent text to people heading on holiday . As reported by the Liverpool Echo , in a text, they urge people to follow a link before they fly. They write: “Remember to check that your passport is valid for the country you are travelling to.” They add that you need to “check the entry requirements” listing their website. Following the link, it takes you to the Foreign travel advice page. Listing a series of destinations, the page is there to help people get “advice and warnings about travel abroad, including entry requirements, safety and security, health risks and legal differences.” If you need to renew your passport, you can do so through the official GOV.UK website. There, you can apply for a new passport, renew an existing one, update your details or request a replacement as well as paying securely online. It is worth noting that passport fees vary based on your age and the method you choose to apply. Keep in mind that applying online is more cost-effective, saving you £12.50 compared to submitting your application by post. You can read exactly how to apply for a new UK passport, the costs and delivery times via the Liverpool Echo .
