Edwin Clinton Woodward, 92, of Marlborough, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025.
Born in Marlborough on April 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Alfred and Edith (Goen) Woodward.
Edwin grew up in Marlborough and attended Dublin School and Marlborough Elementary and High School. After school, he worked at East Hill Farm for Parker Whitcomb, and then in 1953, he joined the U.S. Army. He completed engineering school at Ft. Belvoir, Va., and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He served in Thule, Greenland, which was attached to the U.S. Air Force, and was later transferred to Beale AFB in California where he assisted in cleaning up after the floods before he was honorably discharged in 1956.
After the service, he worked for Arthur Whitcomb Inc. as a block truck driver for many years, and for numerous trucking companies throughout the area. He worked as a carpenter at Pako Homes, and later in life built his own home in Marlborough. In 1974, Edwin started his own contracting company located in Marlborough called B&E Trucking until his retirement in 2009.
Edwin was a member and on the board of directors for the Granite State Chapter of the A.T.C.A., and was a member of the Antique Truck Club of America, American Truck Historical Society, Western Mass Chapter of A.T.C.A. and the Hudson Mohawk Chapter A.T.H.S. where he proudly displayed his 1971 Chevy pickup truck and his 1960 International dump truck that he used for 35 years in his construction business. He also served as a cemetery trustee for the Town of Marlborough for 20 years.
In 1956, he met the “love of his life and whole world,” Barabra Brown. They married on Aug. 8, 1964, and were blessed with 61 years of loving marriage, and together they had a son, Edwin Woodward Jr., who had passed away on Jan. 14, 2024.
In addition to his parents and son, he is predeceased by his sisters, Bette, Evelyn and Joyce.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barabra Woodward; his sister, Eleda (Podgie) More, of New York; his brothers, Richard Woodward, of New York, Eugene and his wife, Terry, of Marlborough, and Hale and his wife, Valerie, of Marlborough; his sister-in-law, Margaret Connell, and Craig Gaudry of Gill, Mass.; Mildred Wesley and Edward of Keene; his brother-in-law, Kevin Brown, of Keene; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held privately.
