Netflix’s hit sci-fi Dark made a massive impact on audiences, and now fans of the show have the perfect new time-traveling sci-fi mystery to watch. While most of Netflix’s most popular TV shows are in English, the German sci-fi mystery Dark is so good that audiences will have to watch it twice.
The time-traveling TV show has many excellent traits. It doesn’t underestimate the intelligence of its viewers, allowing them to figure out the truth over time. Additionally, Dark’s characters will absolutely draw audiences in. A new sci-fi time travel show on Netflix includes both these traits and many more that make it perfect for fans of Dark.
Mobius Is The Perfect Show For Fans Of Netflix’s Dark
Netflix is currently releasing episodes of the sci-fi mystery show Mobius every week alongside the streaming site iQIYI, and so far, the show is brilliant. The show follows a detective named Ding Qi who discovers that he can travel back in time five times every day, allowing him to solve otherwise impossible cases.
However, he soon finds himself struggling when a perfect suspect called “Squid” is dragging him along on a murder mystery that he might not be able to solve. After all, Ding Qi suspects “Squid” has the same time travel abilities.
The C-Drama (Chinese TV show) Mobius is absolutely perfect for fans of Netflix’s Dark for many reasons. Both shows are packed with twists and turns that are genuinely surprising. The small details of the story are essential to the bigger picture, allowing viewers to pick up on the minor clues. Mobius and Dark also hook audiences in the first episode.
The main characters of both shows are trying to solve an impossible mystery, though it’s a disappearance with Dark and a murder with Mobius. Time travel is also central to the story. Ultimately, the stories in Dark and Mobius both feel like one big, woven bigger picture that isn’t clear from the start.
Time Travel Takes The Murder Mysteries In Mobius & Dark To The Next Level
Some sci-fi shows involving time travel don’t necessarily require it to be good. The stories would work if time travel were removed. However, both Dark and Mobius feel like time travel is infused in their DNA. The mysteries in these shows could technically exist without time travel, but it wouldn’t be nearly as impactful.
The cat-and-mouse game in Mobius wouldn’t be nearly as interesting if Ding Qi weren’t convinced he’s fighting someone with the same time-traveling abilities. It’s interesting to know multiple characters (whether or not Squid is one of them) are essentially trying to use the timelines to their advantage and change events over time.
Meanwhile, the multi-generational mystery in Dark could’ve been solved in one timeline, but the character interactions make the story more meaningful. The wormhole under the town is perfect in this case because it allows multiple characters to time-travel at will.
Mobius & Dark Have The Same Gritty Tone
On top of all the other similarities, Mobius and Dark are a little different from other sci-fi shows because they have an extremely gritty storytelling approach. They don’t feel like they exist in some unreachable future that’s polished and almost fantastical.
