Bangladesh dug out a hard-fought 4-wicket win over Sri Lanka on Saturday in the Super 4 encounter of the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates as they chased down the target of 169 runs with a ball to spare.
Fifties from Saif Hassan and Towhid Hridoy steered the Bangla Tigers to victory as fans of the side began to do the famous ‘Nagin’ dance in nostalgic fashion.

The Nagin or serpent dance came to the fore back in the year 2018 as former Sri Lankan player Dasun Gunarathne celebrated the Lankan Lions’ triumph over Bangladesh in Sylhet by breaking into step. However, it was Mushfiqur Rahim’s iteration of the same following their revenge win over Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy later in the year that caught international attention.
It is a tradition that the Bangladesh cricket team and the fans of the side continued and the made yet another appearance at the Dubai International Stadium.
Bangladesh fans also celebrated the wicket of the dangerous Kusal Mendis with the dance, but reserved all out celebrations for the end of the game, which finished in their favour.
BAngaldesh won the toss and opted to have a field first as Sri Lanka made 168/7 riding on Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 64-run knock. He was supported by Kusal Mendis’ 34 run knock, while Pathum Nissanka added 22 runs. Mustafizur Rahman starred with the ball for the Bangla Tigers with his 3/20, while Mahedi Hasan claimed a couple of wickets to his name.
Hassan’s 61-run knock and Hridoy’s 58 helped Bangladesh chase down the target, while Litton Das added 23 runs. Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga removed a couple of wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to give the Lankan Lions the win on the day.
