Graham Potter is surely on borrowed time at West Ham United after his side suffered their fourth league defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on Saturday (September 20). A 2-1 loss at the London Stadium has piled more pressure on the English coach, who has failed to oversee a turnaround since replacing Julen Lopetegui earlier this year.
The Hammers sit 18th after five games with just one win in those outings, coming against Nottingham Forest before the international break. Nuno Espirito Santo became the first Premier League manager dismissed this season, soon after that game.
Potter is edging ever closer to the sack amid his side’s terrible run of results during his tenure, and he’s overseen just six wins and 14 defeats in 25 games across competitions. His appointment seemed an exciting one at the time, but he doesn’t seem the right fit, unlike a possible contender to replace him.
West Ham Must Swiftly Move For Nuno
A managerial merry-go-round is bound to occur at some stage this season as some high-profile names find themselves out of a job. That’s the case for Nuno, whose Forest sacking was extremely controversial given he had steered the Tricky Trees to Europa League football last season.
The Portuguese coach remains available after his dismissal, and it’s the opportune time for West Ham to move for the 51-year-old. He is a manager who can make an immediate impact, as seen when he took over at the City Ground and transformed that team from relegation candidates into European contenders.
Nuno, dubbed “incredible” has a personality that would suit the Irons, whose passionate fanbase wants a boss who isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. That was a problem at Forest, but wouldn’t be at the London Stadium, where many of the current crop need a wake-up call.
GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Nuno Espirito Santo oversaw 30 wins and 26 defeats in 71 games as Nottingham Forest manager
If the East Londoners’ hierarchy continues to cross their fingers and hope for a Potter turnaround, they risk missing out on some astute replacements. The games don’t get any easier for them either as they travel to Everton next Monday (September 29) before taking to the Emirates to face Arsenal in a London derby (October 4).
