Months after the bodies of three young sisters were found abandoned in the Washington state wilderness, authorities believe they’ve found the remains of the man accused of killing them: their father. The accused has been identified as Travis Decker.The remains were found in a remote wooded area south of Leavenworth, Washington. “While positive identification has not yet been confirmed, preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to Travis Decker,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement, as reported by CNN.He served in the US Army from March 2013 to July 2021, as per King 5 Seattle. His truck was also found nearby. The 32-year-old Travis Decker was wanted on kidnapping and first-degree murder charges, according to Washington’s Wenatchee Police Department, and officials believed he had been hiding in a remote part of the mountainous and wooded state.Live EventsOn May 30, the mother of the three girls reported them missing after Decker failed to return his daughters to her home in Wenatchee, Washington, following a visit. He also did not take her phone calls. They died from apparent suffocation and their wrists had been bound with zip ties, authorities told CBS News.Travis and his ex-wife, Whitney Decker, divorced in 2024. Their bodies were discovered on June 2 at an abandoned campsite in the Cascade Mountains, with multiple plastic bags over their heads. Search teams used drones, cadaver dogs, swift-water units, and even GoPro cameras, but the mission was hindered by the treacherous terrain—and by Decker’s three-day head start.”It sounds like at times he would go out and would be off-grid for sometimes up to two and a half months,” Sheriff Morrison said after speaking to Decker’s family.The remains were found on Thursday on Grindstone Mountain, a few miles from where Decker’s daughters’ bodies were found in June, reports CBS’ local news partner KIRO-TV.
