The cosmic meetup, also known as a conjunction, is set to occur between the moon, Venus and the star Regulus

The Moon and Venus will glow brilliantly beside a bright star in the early morning sky, creating a spectacle visible across the entire United States. One of the best naked-eye stargazing sights of the year is on offer to skywatchers only if you are up before the sun Friday, September 19. Just before sunrise, the crescent moon, the brilliant planet Venus and the bright star Regulus (the brightest star in the constellation Leo) will cluster together on the east-northeast horizon. There will be barely half a degree between each of the three objects, which is less than the width of a little finger held up against the sky, according to Live Science This triple conjunction of naked-eye objects is a rare sight worth trying to see.ALSO READ: Matthew James Ruth accused of setting ex-girlfriend’s truck on fire and killing her dog? You don’t need any equipment to watch the breathtaking celestial event. But there’s just one condition that you need to follow- and that is waking before the sunrise or else you will miss a special celestial phenomenon. The upcoming close approach of the objects represents another opportunity for skygazers to see a conjunction soon after Venus and Jupiter prominently shared a section of the night sky for much of August.Live Events”Since the conjunction trio ranks among the brightest objects in our solar system, observing this phenomenon from Earth should be remarkably easy—provided clouds don’t get in the way. What we knowHow to watch the conjunction trioIn the early pre-dawn hours, look east toward the waning, crescent Moon setting in the sky and you’ll notice something peculiar. The Moon will be nestled up right next to both Venus and Regulus, one of the brightest stars in the night sky. The three are part of a conjunction, which simply means that they look close together in the sky (even if they’re actually far apart in space). To find this conjunction, just look to the Moon. And if you want some additional astronomical context, or want to specifically locate Regulus, this star lies within the constellation Leo, the lion.ALSO READ: Daily Show host Jon Stewart mocks Trump with hilarious ‘dear leader’ song after Jimmy Kimmel suspensionWhat is a conjunction?A conjunction is an astronomical event in which at least two planets – or, in this case, other celestial bodies – appear to our vantage from Earth to be close together in the sky.As the planets in our solar system travel around the sun at different speeds, their orbits occasionally bring them near one another on the same side of the sun. Similarly, the moon orbits Earth, and when its position aligns with other celestial bodies as seen from our planet, the result is a conjunction, explains the nonprofit Planetary Society. The trio of celestial objects in conjunction should be visible Friday, Sept. 19, after sunset and before sunrise. The upcoming conjunction will be a party between the moon – Earth’s only natural satellite – as well as a star named Regulus in the constellation Leo and Venus. The second planet from the sun, Venus is often referred to as Earth’s twin since both bodies are rocky and share a similar orbit.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
