Jennifer Lopez Drops Never You Song From Upcoming Musical Kiss Of The Spider

Global icon Jennifer Lopez has released a new track, Never You, ahead of her upcoming film Kiss Of The Spider Woman. The song, released on Thursday via Lakeshore Records, has already begun gaining attention.
In a press statement, Never You was described as a “strikingly emotive song,” adding that this is the “first-ever high-profile inclusion in a musical film and recording.”
Originally written by John Kander, Never You has a unique history. It was never performed beyond the musical’s early developmental workshops at SUNY in 1990. More than three decades later, Lopez’s rendition is its reintroduction

Song In ‘Pivotal Point’
The song comes at what filmmakers call a “pivotal point” in the Bill Condon-directed musical film. Condon, known for directing Beauty and the Beast (2017) and writing Chicago and The Greatest Showman (2017), is expected to add his own expertise to this long-awaited adaptation.
According to the official synopsis, Kiss of the Spider Woman follows the story of “Valentín (Diego Luna), a political prisoner who shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency.” The unlikely pair forge a bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical featuring his beloved silver-screen diva, Ingrid Luna, portrayed by Jennifer Lopez.
With music and lyrics by the legendary John Kander and Fred Ebb, the film intertwines old-school Hollywood glamour with the stark realities of prison life.
Jennifer Lopez’s Debut In Musical
Kiss of the Spider Woman is an adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical of the same name, written by Terrence McNally. It was further inspired by a 1976 novel by Manuel Puig. The film marks Lopez’s first foray into a movie musical.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” Lopez confessed during a post-screening discussion at the Sundance Film Festival, where the film premiered earlier this year. She added, “When you talk about the importance of musicals, the reason that I even wanted to be in this business was because my mom would sit me in front of the TV… we’d come on once a year, West Side Story on Thanksgiving. I remember I was just mesmerized. And I was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.’”
Never You is now available to stream online, with the full soundtrack dropping on October 3. Kiss of the Spider Woman itself will premiere in theaters on October 10.
