Mobile Money Transactions Hit 831 Million in August – BoG

Mobile money usage in Ghana surged in August 2025, with total transactions reaching 831 million, up from 778 million in July, according to the Bank of Ghana’s (BoG) latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data.
The central bank said the sharp rise underscores the growing dominance of mobile payments in Ghana’s financial ecosystem.
Although the value of transactions dipped slightly from GH¢355.4 billion in July to GH¢354.1 billion in August, the increase in volume points to strong public confidence in mobile money for everyday payments, remittances, and business transactions.
BoG data further revealed steady growth in the sector:
Registered accounts climbed to 77.7 million, with 25.1 million active users.
The number of registered agents reached 938,000, of which 433,000 are active.
Interoperability transactions—cross-network transfers—hit 26.4 million, valued at GH¢4.9 billion in August.
The report highlighted that mobile money continues to expand financial inclusion, generate jobs, support tax revenue mobilization, and reduce risks tied to cash handling.
