BAE Systems set to cut 116 management jobs

BAE Systems has announced that it is consulting on plans to cut 116 management roles.

A statement from the defence, maritime and aerospace technology manufacturer explained that it is overhauling the naval ships business division.

The news follows a recent announcement that its Govan and Scotstoun shipyards are to build warships for the Norwegian navy as part of a £10bn deal with the Ministry of Defence.

The Govan yard is already building eight frigates for the Royal Navy.

BAE confirmed that the executive jobs under threat also include facilities in Portsmouth, Frimley and Filton.

A spokesperson explained: “We’ve undertaken a review to consider how we reshape and modernise the operations of our Naval Ships business following considerable investment in our infrastructure in recent years.

“Whilst we expect the overall size of the business to continue to grow, we will now commence consultation to potentially reduce our executive population by up to 116 roles.

“We’ll work alongside our employee representative groups to do everything we can to support our colleagues, including exploring potential opportunities in other areas of the company.

“In the meantime, our focus remains on delivering for our customers.”
