Privatisation of medical colleges: Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council adjourned amid YSRCP protests

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on Friday (September 19, 2025) witnessed uproar, as YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) members staged loud protests demanding an adjournment motion to discuss the State Government’s decision to privatise medical colleges under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.

Council Chairman K. Moshen Raju repeatedly urged the protesting members to maintain order, assuring them that their demand would be placed before the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting and that the government would take a decision. However, with sloganeering continuing unabated, the Chairman adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

Soon after the day’s proceedings began, the chairman of the Legislative Council announced that the adjournment motion moved by YSR Congress Party members Monditoka Arun Kumar, Kumbha Ravi Babu and C. Subramanyam was being rejected. This triggered an uproar, with YSRCP members storming into protest mode, raising slogans against the Telugu Desam Party-led (TDP) coalition government’s decision to privatise medical colleges under PPP model. With no let-up in the din, the chairman adjourned the Council proceedings for 10 minutes.
