Every time I look at old photos of downtown San Pedro, I can’t help but feel amazed at how much my island home has transformed. The streets I once knew as soft, sandy paths are now paved and buzzing with the steady hum of golf carts. Where there used to be small wooden houses and simple one-story buildings, we now see concrete structures rising three stories high, filled with shops, restaurants, and businesses that keep the town alive day and night.
What was once a quiet fishing village where neighbors greeted each other on calm, empty streets has grown into a bustling tourism mecca, the heartbeat of Belize’s travel industry. San Pedro has changed so much, and while part of me misses the old village charm, I can’t help but feel proud of the vibrant, thriving town it has become.
