While Hollow Knight: Silksong made a huge impact, reportedly selling over three million copies on Steam in just three days, other neighboring releases seemingly struggled, including Bloober Team’s Cronos: The New Dawn. The sci-fi survival horror shooter sold over 200,000 copies on its launch day (as reported to Bankier.pl).
This is all digital, so together with physical sales, the total could be higher. Nevertheless, with good reviews, a strong marketing campaign and the success of Silent Hill 2 remake, the numbers seem somewhat low.
Then again, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno recently revealed that its budget, rumored to be approximately $27.5 million, is “certainly not that high” and the “break-even point is not as high as analysts indicate.” Regarding Silksong and any concern over releasing at the same time, he responded that it targets a “completely different audience.”
“We believe that Cronos: The New Dawn is totally different from anything else on the market right now, and that’s why we think it would be unreasonable to postpone the release date in any way,” Babieno added. Even if it turned out to be a major success, a sequel isn’t planned, and Bloober Team has other projects in the works, including Konami’s Silent Hill 1 remake.
Cronos: The New Dawn is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review.
