Sannie Daara: Calls for Otto Addo’s sack premature

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has described calls for the dismissal of Black Stars coach Otto Addo as premature.

The 50-year-old trainer has come under increasing pressure despite guiding Ghana to a 1-1 draw with Chad and a 1-0 victory over Mali during the September international break of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana had previously secured back-to-back wins in March, but recent unconvincing performances have triggered criticism from fans, pundits, and sections of the media. Sports Minister Kofi Adams has voiced dissatisfaction with the team’s output, while former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu openly questioned Addo’s ability to lead Ghana successfully to the World Cup.

Sannie Daara, who now serves as a Senior CAF Media Officer, urged patience. He argued that decisions regarding Addo’s future should only be made after the World Cup qualification campaign is concluded.

“Calling for Otto Addo’s sack now is too hasty. We should wait until the Black Stars’ World Cup qualification is decided,” he told Asempa FM.

Otto Addo was reappointed in March 2024 on a three-year contract, with an option for a two-year extension. Under his leadership, Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but the coach is expected to lead the team in their final two qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October.
