Warning to UK drivers after popular car brand 'issues recall for six models'

Popular car retailer Renault has announced it is recalling six models due to a potentially dangerous defect. AutoExpress claims the recall is due to an issue with the car’s electronic parking brake system. It’s been reported that 100 UK vehicles , including the popular Megane E-Tech, are impacted by the recall notice. Eleven Renault Austral, 7 Captur, 23 Megane E-Tech, 40 Scenic E-Tech, 16 Symbioz and three Rafale models are believed to be affected. It’s also believed six Dacia Dusters are involved in the latest problem, causing major problems for owners. The Express reports that it is believed the vehicles affected were all built by the French brand between April 2024 and January 2025 The main cause of the issue is believed to be an incorrectly angled position sensor placed inside the parking brake actuator . Experts warned that this can lead to the stopping pin being placed incorrectly, meaning the parking brake is properly engaged when motorists press the P button. There are fears that the issue could increase the risk of the vehicle rolling unexpectedly, which is a major concern for owners. Specialists have claimed the French manufacturer is currently in the process of contacting owners of vehicles involved. Although road users don’t have to do anything extra at this stage, concerned owners can contact a Renault dealer. Owners may also be able to find more information or details on whether their vehicle is involved through Renault’s recalls site. Customers will simply need to enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), usually found on the inside of the door frame or stamped on the dashboard, to check if their particular model is included in a recall. Renault has previously confirmed that any repairs undertaken through a recall notice would be offered to customers completely free. Renault confirmed to Express.co.uk that owners will be informed and the cars fixed in due course. The French brand previously said: “Recall campaigns are deployed as a preventive measure and focus on a specific group of vehicles that have been identified as potentially demonstrating a specific fault, which could affect the safety of the vehicle’s occupants and other road users. “The operation consists of a check to identify whether the relevant fault exists on the vehicle, followed by repairs if required. Where you are notified of a Recall outstanding on your vehicle, it is essential that you contact your Renault Retailer as soon as possible.” Renault has been contacted for comment.
