Tom Brady was a busy man during Monday’s game between the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers.
Along with his announcement of his involvement in The Fanatics Flag Football Classic in Saudi Arabia next year, Brady was also spotted by the ESPN broadcast in the coaches’ box speaking with offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. During that time, the announcers said Brady and Kelly meet multiple times a week to discuss the game plan together. While Brady’s status as minority owner of the Raiders gives him a right to be there, his status as a broadcaster for Fox brought controversy of a potential conflict of interest back into the spotlight.
When asked about it after the Raiders’ 20-9 defeat to the Chargers, Pete Carroll gave a swift response to clear up any misconceptions.
Carroll cleared the air between what was really going on between Brady and Kelly.
During his response to the question, Carroll made it clear that the two sides do talk, but not about the game plan.
“That’s not accurate,” Carroll said. “We have conversations. I talk to Tom, Chip talks to Tom regularly. We have a tremendous asset, and so we all get along well, we respect each other, and so we just talk about life and football and whatever it becomes. He has great insight, so we’re lucky to have him as an owner.”
