Most obituaries published in the Reading Eagle are submitted through funeral homes and cremation services, but we will accept submissions from families. Obituaries can be emailed to obituaries@readingeagle.com.
In addition to the text of the obituary, any photographs that you wish to include can be attached to this email. Please put the text of the obituary in a Word document, a Google document or in the body of the email. The Reading Eagle also requires a way to verify the death, so please include either the phone number of the funeral home or cremation service that is in charge of the deceased’s care or a photo of his/her death certificate. We also request that your full name, phone number and address are all included in this email.
All payments by families must be made with a credit card. We will send a proof of the completed obituary before we require payment. The obituary cannot run, however, until we receive payment in full.
Obituaries can be submitted for any future date, but they must be received no later than 3:00 p.m. the day prior to its running for it to be published.

West Chester – Barclay Friends, a Kendal Affiliate community in West Chester, Chester County, has been awarded the Memory Care Seal of Excellence by the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
This designation recognizes Barclay Friends’ commitment to providing exceptional dementia care and its dedication to advancing standards as part of the Memory Care Excellence Network, according to a press release.
“We are thrilled to welcome Barclay Friends into the Memory Care Excellence Network,” Patrick Smith, CEO of the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, said in a statement. “They are now recognized as leaders in the field, setting the standard for best practices and innovative care.”
The Memory Care Excellence Network is a program designed to identify and support top-tier long-term care organizations that demonstrate the highest standards in dementia care.
Communities in the Memory Care Excellence Network undergo a rigorous evaluation process, including assessments of staff training, operations and ongoing competency in memory care. The organizations approved in the network exceed the expectations required to provide high-quality, person-centered dementia care, the release said.
“This accreditation acknowledges the great commitment we have to support those living with dementia and their families. We focus on the abilities and needs of the residents through person-centered care in a community that is home,” Marina Hacking, senior director of health services/NHA, Barclay Friends, said in a statement.
Maria Santangelo, CEO of Barclay Friends, said the recognition underscores Barclay Friends’ commitment to older adults and their families living with dementia.
“The training and specialized education truly set us apart and allow the team to create meaningful experiences in a safe and supportive environment, approaching memory care with knowledge, dignity and respect,” she said in a statement.
Barclay Friends is a not-for-profit organization that provides care and a home-like environment for older adults. The National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners promotes standards and education in dementia care. The Memory Care Excellence Network is an initiative developed by the council.
