It is necessary to encourage education sector to ensure a secure future for the country

Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing this morning met departmental officials and town elders at Pearl Yadana Hall in Myeik of Taninthayi Region to talk about regional development under-takings.

Town elders and official of organizations presented their reports on needs to apply implementation of the Myeik fish auction market and industrial zone projects through BOO system, upgrade of Myeik Airport to admit foreign cargo flights, difficulties to produce finished goods of marine pro-ducts from Taninthayi Region and export them abroad, swift export of Myeik’s seawater fish, aid of the State to provide fry shrimps and aquafeeds for ensuring an easy import process to boom seawater shrimp businesses, import of necessary parts for the tubeless tyre factory to produce import-substitute rubber products in Taninthayi Region, and requirements for regional development.
Union ministers and officials’ response to the submissions
Union Ministers and deputy ministers discussed verifying and allowing livestock and fishery products of Taninthayi Region under the procedures for export without delay, allowing prawn farms under disciplines, needs of fishing trawlers to follow relevant laws and disciplines, establishment of industrial, agriculture and livestock basic education high schools to turn out necessary human resources to operate the MSME businesses and agriculture and livestock farms successfully, practical works of students, and a plan to upgrade Myeik Airport. The Region Chief Minister added discussions on supply of water and electricity.
Regional development measures and discussions over the reports
In his address, the Acting President and SSPC Chairman of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar emphasized regional development undertakings, saying that the best efforts would be made to carry it out regarding the project to construct an international fish auction market in Myeik included in the presentations. A policy has already been laid down concerning land use. While some progress has been observed in terms of rice sufficiency in Myeik District, continued efforts are needed to fully meet the target goals. Land permitted for agricultural use must not be diverted for other purposes, and all activities must be carried out in accordance with established rules and regulations. If high-rise buildings are constructed for residential use in Myeik, living conditions could become more convenient, while the use of farmland for other purposes would also decline. Export of marine products must be con-ducted properly and in line with set regulations. If cold storage containers are used for exports, operations would become more efficient. Arrangements will also be made for the importation of shrimp larvae and shrimp feed. Since marine products from Myanmar have high market demand in neighbouring countries, the Myeik airport will be upgraded to facilitate air transport for exports. Efforts are also being made to produce shrimp feed domestically. In shrimp farming, in addition to establishing shrimp ponds, mangroves need to be planted to minimize natural hazards as much as possible, and the construction of shrimp ponds must be carried out systematically with proper research.
Emphasis placed on the State to firmly walk on the path of multi-party democracy
The purpose of the visit to Taninthayi Region aims to hold discussions and take measures to further promote regional development and economic activities in the region. Efforts are needed to raise both the economic and social standards of the region and the nation. People desire political stability and economic growth, and wish to engage in economic activities in peace of mind and tranquility.
He stated that they will work to ensure the State can continue its firm journey on the path of multi-party democracy, emphasizing the need for political actions to be done correctly and properly. Tatmadaw has already agreed to enable the correct and firm continuation of the multi-party democracy system desired by the people. He added that in a democracy, the general election is the lifeblood and is extremely important, and that the 2008 Constitution already has provisions regarding the convening of Hluttaws.
He stated that in a democratic system, general elections are vital for convening and forming various Hluttaws. These Hluttaws assign responsibilities to the President, Vice President, administrative bodies, and union-level organizations designated by the President and the government. It is therefore essential to hold elections and ensure they are conducted in accordance with the law. He noted that when election fraud occurred in the 2020 multi-party democracy general election, Tatmadaw repeatedly called for a resolution in accordance with the law, but the responsible government failed to act. He explained that as a result, and because of attempts to take state power illegally by convening the Hluttaw, Tatmadaw had to assume State duties in accordance with the 2008 Constitution. He concluded by stating that they are carrying out preparatory work to hold an election soon and will work to ensure it is a dignified and successful one.
The socio-economic and educational advancement of rural residents
He stated that about 70 percent of the country’s population are rural residents who mainly work in agriculture and farming. He explained that since rural residents are the primary practitioners of these activities, developing their socio-economic well-being would lead to national economic growth and poverty reduction. He concluded by saying that they have prioritized and will continue to work on the socio-economic development of rural residents.
Regarding education, he stated that due to existing weaknesses, education in the country must be reformed and promoted. With the goal of increasing the number of educated young people, he consulted with the ministers of education and sci-ence and technology and worked to open Polytechnic universities, with plans to open more in the future. Similarly, for students who have completed middle school, industrial agriculture and farming high schools are also being opened. He also stated that a systematic economy can only be created with good human resources, and therefore, they must strive to produce good, educated human resources. He added that the country has many natural resources, and if they can be used effectively through hard work, the nation can develop. He concluded by saying that while the government must create jobs, it is also necessary for the people to truly work.
He stated that by carrying out local production activities, employment opportunities will increase, regional circulating capital will grow, and socio-economic lives will improve. He therefore called on everyone to cooperate and strive for the development of local production activities.
Increase production, intensify work efforts to develop the nation
It is necessary to increase re-venue from regional production for the development of the nation and the improvement of socio-economic lives. Regions and states need to work to in-crease the production of their advantageous and promising products. Although our country has favourable natural conditions and opportunities for production, work still needs to be done. Even with sufficient resources and labour, being selective about jobs hinders development. For the nation’s progress, we must strive in any sector and any place we find ourselves.
Strive to develop the socio-economy by effectively utilizing the region’s good foundations
Due to high production costs and imbalances between supply and demand in livestock farming, the prices of meat, fish, and basic food commodities remain high. Therefore, business owners are urged to expand operations to balance supply and demand. The State will also assist and support the development of livestock farming, and business owners are urged to succeed in their endeavours.
Industrial production enter-prises can also be successfully operated using local products. For instance, based on raw rubber from the Taninthayi Re-gion, finished rubber products needed domestically can be produced. Similarly, high-value, marketable finished products can be made from coconuts, which are abundantly success-ful in the region, and business owners are urged to undertake this. They are encouraged to effectively utilize the region’s existing good foundations and work for the development of the regional economy.
Regarding education, altho-ugh Myeik is observed to be a city that supports education, its transition rate is still low. Therefore, efforts must be made to improve transition rates. We must strive to be able to leave a good educational legacy for our future children. Only with a good foundational education will it be easier to learn vocational skills. Improving education is an investment for the future, and for the country’s secure future, education must be systematically prioritized. We must focus on producing good, educated human resources who will lead the future nation.
Bringing forth candidates who can serve the interests of the nation and the region
We are preparing to hold a multi-party democratic general election in December. In doing so, preparations are being made to ensure a free, fair, and digni-fied election. Arrangements are also being made for votes to be cast using the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines (MEVMs). These MEVMs are reliable and prevent electoral fraud. When casting votes, the elected representatives should be those who can genuinely work for the country’s benefit, truly implement the democratic system, authentically uphold Our Three Main National Causes, and those who can work to build a good nation. For the develop-ment of the Myeik region, while the State is providing support, the residents of the Myeik region are also urged to collectively work for the benefit of their area.
Following the ceremony, the Senior General and officials cordially greeted the attendees. They then viewed the MSME product exhibition booths from Myeik District one by one and inquired about and discussed matters they wished to know.
Afterwards, the Senior General and members arrived at the Myeik City Sports Ground, inspected it, and gave instructions to officials on the requirements for upgrading the sports ground.
Next, the Senior General and members visited Myeik Airport. In the airport terminal, the Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications explained the ongoing work to upgrade Myeik Airport and its runway.
In response to the Senior General instructed that the run-way be upgraded, that airport buildings be systematically recalculated and developed, and gave guidance on other necessary matters.
Laykyun Hsimee Pagoda
Similarly, on the evening of September 18, the Senior General and his wife, along with members, visited the Laykyun Hsimee Pagoda. They paid respects to the pagoda and made offerings of flowers, water, and oil lamps. The Senior General then signed the pagoda’s guest book.
Afterwards, the Senior General and members circumambulated the pagoda to pay homage. They also paid respects to ancient Buddha images inside the 240-year-old ancient historic Thamok Theindaw hall and gave instructions for the long-term endurance of the pagoda and the ancient historic hall.
The Senior General and his wife then donated funds for the comprehensive needs of the pagoda, which were received by members of the pagoda board of trustees.
Later, the Senior General and members toured around Myeik town and along the Myeik strand road in vehicles to observe and inspect the areas.
