A generous brewery has offered to buy what could be Britain’s biggest round – by promising everyone in a town’s 78,000 population a free beer if they visit their local rugby club. Camden Town Brewery have teamed up with l egendary rugby union outfit Rugby Football Club to create a ‘moment to remember’ for the whole town of Rugby, Warwickshire. They’re offering every adult resident of the 78,000-population town a free pint of their iconic beers if they visit the rugby club on October 4 for their match vs Oundle II. Reports show the average price of a Camden Hells lager in mid-2025 was £6.34, meaning a pint for the estimated 49,000 adults living it Rugby could be worth a staggering £317,000. Rugby FC is one of only three teams in the world allowed to play in full white, with one of the others being the national team, and the town is said to have invented the sport in 1823. Camden Town Brewery are sponsoring the historic club as part of their Give Em Hells campaign, which is an initiative in partnership with sports equipment firm Gilbert to support grassroots clubs. The brewery plans to follow up the promotion by repairing old turnstiles and supplying new equipment to the club who admit they’ve ‘felt the squeeze in the past decade’. A Camden Town Brewery spokesperson said: “[It’s] quite the bar bill, but nothing but the best for our fans. Some buy stadium rights, we’re buying the whole town a pint.” Camden Town Brewery’s Head of Marketing George Fitzroy said: “Last year we unveiled Give ‘Em Hells, an initiative designed to provide vital support to rugby clubs across the UK. “The aim, to foster stronger community connections through the shared love of rugby and beer. Today, we’re so proud to announce ourselves as the official sponsors of Rugby Football Club, a grassroots club that is unmatched in its history. “We wanted to launch a sponsorship that felt authentic and honest to our brand commitment to grassroots rugby through Give Em Hells, and we think this is the perfect fit.” They have also recruited turf artist John Ledwidge – affectionately known as the ‘Messi of Mowing’ – and his team of pitch-painting pioneers to unveil the partnership with a stunning visual pitch statement. Chairman of Rugby Football Club Mal Malik said: “It’s amazing to have the support of Camden Town Brewery, and we’re so grateful for the sponsorship that is promising to bring a smile to the club and community. “We’re one of many grassroots clubs that has felt the squeeze in the past decade, and to have a vehicle to create a change to the sport up and down the country is a refreshing notion for the future.” Camden Town Brewery began brewing under the railway arches in Camden in 2010 and its five beers are available in supermarkets and around 3,000 pubs, bars and independent retailers.
